Trainspotting The Musical

Trainspotting The Musical at Leeds Grand Theatre

Why see Trainspotting The Musical?

Choose Life. Choose Musicals.

Three decades after the release of Danny Boyle's famous film adaptation of Irvine Welsh's seminal novel, Trainspotting now has its musical adaptation. Following a world premiere in London's West End, the show is now headed across the UK on tour!

Written by Welsh himself and directed by Caroline Jay Ranger (Fawlty Towers - The Play), music and lyrics are written by musician Stephen McGuinness and Welsh, while protagonist Mark Renton will be played by West End debutant Robbie Scott, with further casting details to be announced.

The BAFTA-winning 1996 film is seen as one of the cultural touchstones of the era, listed in the BFI's 100 greatest films of the century, and with the novel's original writer behind this adaptation, expect a stage musical just as tragic and strangely life-affirming.

What is the Story?

Taking you back to the no-holds-barred heroin scene in 1980's Edinburgh, Trainspotting is the story of Mark Renton and his friends, a bunch of young men lost in the haze of drink and hard drugs, spending their days in pursuit of nothing but the next high. But when Renton decides to give up the gak, life changes, even more so than he could have ever imagined.
